Wholesale Setup Guide - Guided B2B Launch for Shopify
Launch Shopify wholesale without a consultant
A vendor-neutral, guided setup wizard that checks a Shopify store's plan, recommends native B2B or an app, and walks the owner through wholesale pricing tiers, registration and approval, tax exemptions, minimums and payment terms. It replaces days of trial and error and expensive consultants with a step-by-step flow tailored to the merchant's plan.

Wholesale on Shopify isn't hard. Finding the right setup is.
- Who it's for
- non-technical Shopify store owners and DTC founders on Basic, Grow or Advanced plans adding their first wholesale channel
- What it does
- a vendor-neutral guided setup wizard that checks the store's plan, recommends native B2B or a specific app, and configures pricing tiers, registration and approval, tax exemptions, minimums and payment terms, with a pre-launch audit for pricing leaks
- What changes
- Two-plus days of circling through Shopify's B2B docs becomes an afternoon of guided, plan-specific setup
- Biggest risk
- Shopify improves its native B2B docs or adds a built-in setup wizard now that B2B is on all paid plans (April 2, 2026 rollout), removing the core pain.
Shopify just opened B2B to every paid plan
On April 2, 2026 Shopify opened native B2B to every paid plan (Basic, Grow, Advanced), so millions of non-Plus merchants can now sell wholesale and many will need help setting it up.
On April 2, 2026 Shopify extended its foundational B2B features to merchants on Basic, Grow, and Advanced plans at no extra cost, so merchants on every plan can run wholesale and DTC from one platform. The features were refined on Shopify Plus over nearly four years.
Shopify NewsRoughly 50 B2B features that used to require Plus are now included on Basic, Shopify, and Advanced. They include companies, catalogs, wholesale and volume pricing, PO numbers, net payment terms, ACH bank transfers, and vaulted credit cards.
ECommerce PartnersBefore the change, Shopify's built-in B2B gave each wholesale account its own catalog only on Plus, at $3,650 CAD a month on a one-year term (checked October 2026). Apps are the alternative for adding account pricing on cheaper plans.
SyndicateOn October 5, 2026 TrackStreet acquired Candid Wholesale to expand into authorized B2B commerce.
TrackStreetGoodDay Software raised an additional $7M on January 14-16, 2026 to build an AI-native ERP alternative for inventory-driven Shopify brands. Investors include Long Journey Ventures, Seguin Ventures and Adverb Ventures, alongside existing backers Ridge Ventures, FirstMark Capital and Flex Capital.
GoodDay SoftwareA February 2026 guide says that in 2026, showing only one price on a Shopify store (VAT-inclusive or VAT-exclusive) creates legal risk for EU stores selling to both businesses and consumers. It says B2B buyers expect net (ex-VAT) prices before checkout.

Build it lean. Distribution is the risk.
build medium confidenceBuild it as a lean, content-led guided product: the setup pain is concrete and the April 2026 plan change opens a window, but pricing power is limited and Shopify's own docs could close the gap.
✓Why it works
- +The top pain is explicit and repeated: Reddit users report 'over two days' lost and unable to create a B2B market on Basic
- +Shopify opened native B2B to Basic, Grow and Advanced on April 2, 2026, creating a surge of merchants who need setup help
- +Nobody owns the vendor-neutral position: the apps (Wholesale Gorilla, SparkLayer, BSS, B2Bridge) each sell themselves, and merchants and agencies ask for neutral recommendations
- +Low build cost and a clear alternative to beat: consultants are expensive and slow for what is a standard configuration
!What could kill it
- −Shopify B2B (native) is free and Shopify could fix its docs or add an onboarding wizard, removing the core pain
- −Search demand is tiny (shopify B2B volume 4, shopify wholesale 6), so distribution depends on community and outreach rather than SEO
- −SparkLayer already offers free install, a setup checklist and an AI helper, and several apps are priced at $29-99/mo, which caps what merchants will pay for guidance
- −No direct willingness-to-pay evidence exists, and one-time setup revenue is not recurring
Risks & mitigations
Shopify improves its native B2B docs or adds a built-in setup wizard now that B2B is on all paid plans (April 2, 2026 rollout), removing the core pain.
HighMitigation: Position as vendor-neutral advice on native vs apps and on pricing audits, which Shopify will not provide, and lock in agency and partner distribution early.
SparkLayer already offers a free setup checklist, an AI helper and free install by its team, while BSS starts at $29/mo, which caps what merchants will pay for guidance.
MediumMitigation: Keep prices low ($49-$199 one-time) and compete on neutrality and the audit. Offer an affiliate or referral arrangement with apps rather than fighting them.
Search volume is near zero (shopify B2B volume 4, shopify wholesale 6), so organic discovery is weak.
HighMitigation: Lead with Reddit (r/shopify, r/ecommerce, r/smallbusiness), agency partnerships and direct outreach to stores launching wholesale rather than SEO or paid search.
Shopify's plan features and the B2B partner guidance change often (including reports that only 1 in 10 non-Plus stores had access), so guides can go stale and damage trust.
MediumMitigation: Version every guide by date, run automated plan-feature checks, and sell the $29/mo Health Monitor to fund ongoing maintenance.
Merchants may choose a free app tier (SparkLayer Basic or BSS Free) and follow the vendor's own onboarding, so guided setup becomes a nice-to-have.
MediumMitigation: Anchor value on avoided mistakes (pricing leaks, unusable registration forms) and the app-selection decision, which the free tiers do not address.
A few hundred setups, about $7.5K a month
EstimatesGo-to-market
- Launch strategy
- Search volume for Shopify wholesale terms is minimal, so do not rely on SEO or paid search. Use the April 2, 2026 rollout of B2B to Basic, Grow and Advanced as the hook: launch the free Plan Checker with a data-led post such as 'which Shopify plans actually get B2B', then convert interested merchants to the $49 Playbook and $199 Wizard.
- First 100 users
- Answer 30-40 live B2B setup threads in r/shopify, r/ecommerce and r/smallbusiness with genuine plan-specific help and the Plan Checker link. Email 50-100 Shopify agencies and freelancers (the type who asked for Wholesale Gorilla alternatives) offering a free white-label wizard in exchange for feedback. Directly message 100 DTC brands that show 'wholesale inquiries' pages with a free setup review. Aim for about 100 Plan Checker users, with 10-20 paying in the first month.
- Pricing validation
- Pre-sell the $199 Wizard and $499 Audit to the first 20 respondents before building the full product, using the $49 SparkLayer Starter and $99 B2Bridge Professional price points as anchors and consultant fees as the alternative. Run a $49 vs $79 Playbook test, and track whether buyers ask for a human-reviewed audit.

Prices are anchored to the ladder and to app prices of $29-299/mo, but traffic, conversion rates and the one-time-versus-subscription mix are assumptions with no direct willingness-to-pay data; the revenue total includes about $8K from assumed monitoring subscribers.

6.2/10
↑Maximize these
A working, correctly priced Shopify wholesale channel with approvals, tax exemptions, minimums and net terms, launched without a consultant. It does not remove the limits of Shopify or the cost of any apps the store ends up needing.
Reasonably high, because the pain is repeated and specific: merchants lose days on setup and get contradictory answers on plan support. But there is no proven willingness-to-pay data yet, and Shopify could improve its own docs.
↓Minimize these
An afternoon to a day for most stores, versus the multi-day struggles described in the research. Ongoing apps or Plus costs remain separate.
Owners must answer a short questionnaire, grant read access or follow the steps in their admin, and possibly install a third-party app. Switching cost is low because the guide sits on top of Shopify and does not replace anything.
